116th IBCT Soldiers staged, ready in Lexington
Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to units from the Lynchburg-based 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team stage at their readiness center in Lexington, Virginia, to prepare for possible winter weather response operations Jan. 22, 2016. The Guard is working nearly 25 requests from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to provide support to several localities as well as the Virginia State Police in Northern Virginia area and along the I-81 and US 29 corridors. Soldiers are helping state troopers with transport to hard-to-reach areas as well as transporting citizens in need of medial attention and transfer of medical supplies. The Guard currently has approximately 400 personnel staged and ready at readiness centers along the I-81 corridor between Lexington and Winchester, along the Route 29 corridor from Warrenton to Danville, as well as in the areas near Richmond, Fredericksburg and Gate City.
