High-performing Virginia Army, Air Guard units recognized
Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, presents the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award to the 192nd Fighter Wing and Air Force Meritorious Unit Award was to the 192nd Intelligence Squadron, 192nd Fighter Wing at the Virginia National Guard Officer Conference April 30, 2016, in Hampton, Virginia. The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award recognizes units for exceptional meritorious conduct during military operations against an armed enemy of the United States on or after September 11, 2001. In order to earn this award, a unit must display such outstanding devotion and superior performance of exceptionally difficult tasks as to set it apart and above other units with similar missions. The degree of achievement required is the same as that which would warrant award of the Legion of Merit. The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award recognizes numbered units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units. The services include: performance of exceptionally meritorious service, accomplishment of a specific outstanding achievement of national or international significance, combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, or military operations involving conflict with or exposure to hostile actions by an opposing foreign force.
