Ceremony marks closing of Va. Guard readiness center in Chatham

Current and former Soldiers join a ceremony May 13, 2016, marking the closure of the Virginia National Guard's readiness center in Chatham, Virginia. Brig. Gen. Steven Scott, Assistant Adjutant General of Virginia, delivered the keynote address recognizing the Soldiers who served in the readiness center over the years and thanking the Chatham and Pittsylvania County communities for their support. Brig. Gen. Paul Griffin, Virginia National Guard Director of the Joint Staff, presented the last U. S. flag flown over the readiness center to Staff Sgt. James Midkiff, the last facility manager and training noncommissioned officer for Detachment 2, Company A, 429th Brigade Support Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Griffin presented the last Virginia flag flown over the readiness center to Mr. Jessie Barksdale, chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors,‎ on behalf of the town of Chatham.
