Saber Squadron welcomes new commander

Lt. Col. Stephan Ruppel-Lee takes command of the Portsmouth-based 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Lt. Col. Russell E. McGuire Oct. 14, 2016, at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Col. E. Scott Smith, commander of the 116th IBCT, presided over the exchange of the unit colors that represented the change of command from McGuire to Ruppel-Lee. Smith presented McGuire with the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his outstanding service as the squadron commander. Ruppel-Lee was also presented with the Meritorious Service Medal for his extraordinary performance at his previous post with the Fort Belvoir-based 29th Infantry Division.
