Normandy Soldiers welcome new commander
Lt. Col. Samuel T. Donnelly takes command of the Winchester-based 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Lt. Col. Kurt K. Kobernik Nov. 6, 2016, at the Cherry-Beasley Readiness Center in Winchester, Virginia. Col. E. Scott Smith, commander of the 116th IBCT, presided over the exchange of the unit colors that represented the change of command from Kobernick to Donnelly. Smith presented Kobernick with the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his outstanding service as battalion commander. During his command, 3rd Battalion mobilized for a successful deployment providing security for installations in the U.S. Army’s Central Command area of operations in Qatar.
