Virginia Guard senior leaders visit 529th CSSB at Fort Hood, Texas
Senior leaders of the Virginia National Guard visited the Virginia Beach-based 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion May 4 at Fort Hood, Texas prior the battalion’s departure for federal duty in Afghanistan. The 529th received its validation May 3, 2010 that approved the battalion for duty in Afghanistan after weeks of training at Fort Hood. The unit is expected to leave the mobilization training station by the middle of May and arrive in Afghanistan for a week of additional training before their mission starts. Brig. Gen. Stephen Huxtable, the Assistant Adjutant General of Virginia for Army, visited the unit along with Command Sgt. Maj. Carl Holcomb, state command sergeant major, and Command Sgt. Maj. Cheyenne Johnson, command sergeant major of the 329th Regional Support Group. The Virginia Guard leaders met with leaders from the 529th as well as leaders from the 120th Training Support Brigade, the unit tasked with training and mentoring the 529th at Fort Hood.
