229th Chemical Co. suits up for familiarization exercise
Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Rocky Mount-based 229th Chemical Company, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group conduct a familiarization exercise with specialized hazardous material detection and collection equipment during their annual training August 7, 2019, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. The exercise let the Soldiers become familiar with Dismounted Reconnaissance Sets, Kits and Outfits, or DR SKO, which allows them to detect, identify, mark and collect samples from a contaminated site. For the unit’s junior soldiers, it was their first chance to practice donning and operating in the protective suits in a simulated chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) hazard environment.
