Soldiers face final challenge in quest for Rappel Master certification

Soldiers hoping to earn the Rappel Master certification faced their final challenge Aug. 27 with the Aircraft Command and Control Practical Exercise at the Air Assault Training Course at Fort Pickett. The Fort Pickett-based 1st Battalion, 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute teaches the five-day course where Soldiers learn the skills they need in order to be responsible for rappelling operations from UH-60s and towers. For their final evaluation, Soldiers oversee two other students rappel from the aircraft while inspecting their equipment and safety harnesses, and ensure the safety of the Soldiers from the time they enter the aircraft until they reach the ground and are clear from the helicopter.
