Va. National Guard personnel conduct N-95 mask fit testing

Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen conduct N-95 respirator mask fit testing for staff members at a long-term care facility April 24, 2020. While the VNG personnel have extensive hazardous materials training making them well-suited to provide support during Virginia’s COVID-19 response, personnel from Virginia Department of Health provided specific training on how to employ the mask fit test kits prior to deploying for their missions. VNG support provides additional capacity to VDH to get more people properly tested for mask fit. VNG personnel are also assisting with sample collection using provided COVID-19 testing kits as well as transporting the kits themselves and delivering samples to laboratories for evaluation. During domestic operations, the VNG receives mission taskings from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and can't respond to direct requests for assistance. Localities looking for VNG support should contact VDEM and make a request. (U.S. National Guard photo by Cotton Puryear)
