VNG Soldiers, Airmen support COVID-19 testing in Lexington

Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen assist with a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site run by the Virginia Department of Health Central Shenandoah Health District May 29, 2020, in Lexington, Virginia. VNG personnel collected samples, and VDH will have the kits evaluated and notify citizens of the results. Volunteers from the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps assisted with initial screening prior to the sample collection, and VDH personnel distributed health education information after the tests were administered. VNG Soldiers and Airmen assigned to the Richmond-based 34th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High-Yield Explosives Enhanced Response Force Package are helping increase Virginia’s COVID-19 testing capacity in long term care and correctional facilities, in communities and at other locations directed by VDH and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and VNG personnel have have conducted 24,000 tests.
