VDF conducts statewide emergency response exercise
Virginia Defense Force personnel assigned to the Communication Battalion, Support Operations Group take part in the Highland Guardian field training exercise Nov. 7, 2020, at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. The exercise simulated a severe weather situation causing traditional cellular and internet services to be severely degraded, and VDF personnel providing regional liaison, incident management assistance, access control and interoperable communications support. As part of the statewide communications exercise, VDF personnel located in Cedar Bluff, Fairfax, Lynchburg, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Warrenton and Winchester were able to communicate by high frequency radio and share exercise message traffic.
