Normandy Brigade Soldiers train on upgraded target acquisition system

Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team conduct a final proficiency evaluation to complete the weeklong crew course new equipment training for the improved target acquisition system used to fire the M41A7 tube-launched, optically- tracked, wire-guided missile Aug. 25, 2022, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. More than 50 Soldiers assigned to Humvee mounted units in the Normandy Brigade took part in the training. The ITAS is a multipurpose weapon system used as a reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition sensor to provide long-range anti-armor/precision assault fire capabilities. The upgraded system provides image capture capabilities, improved network connectivity, superior long range surveillance and better target coordination between crews and adjacent units.
