Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to units across the state train on expeditionary satellite communications systems during a new equipment training Feb. 14, 2024, at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. The training was part of a pilot program for Satellite Communications as a Managed Service, or SaaMS, which will inform Army decisions on the potential leased use of commercial satellites, satellite equipment and services in order to keep pace with changing technology and mission needs, as opposed to owning and maintaining equipment that can quickly become obsolete.
