Fort Barfoot celebrates Earth Day

Staff from multiple garrison directorates celebrate Earth Day by planting trees and vegetables April 22, 2024, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. Members of the Facilities and Engineering Environmental Office and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Public Works planted more than 90 trees at the intersection of A Avenue and 30th Street, and staff from DPW planted a “First Lady” pink flowering cherry tree and vegetables at the “Victory Garden” located at the site of the old post headquarters. The cherry tree was planted as a symbol to the era the post was created during the early months of World War II and presents how the beauty of life, like the blooms, does not last forever and encourages make the most of the beauty of life. Fort Barfoot directorates were empowered to come up with their own ideas for projects to promote environmental stewardship. (U.S. National Guard photo by Cotton Puryear)
