VNG Soldiers support response to Hurricane Helen impacts

Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Gate City-based 1032nd Transportation Company, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support group provide debris reduction, high mobility transport and evacuation assistance in support of the response to impacts from Hurricane Helene Sept. 27-29, 2024, in and around Abingdon, Virginia. VNG Soldiers were among the group of first responders recognized by Governor Glenn Youngkin during his damage assessment tour of the region. Soldiers cleared more than 50 trees in Scott County, Russell County and Washington County, assisted the Virginia State Police with evacuating a family and their dogs, assisted first responders with evacuating 11 citizens after a washed out bridge cut them off from the main road and also helped distribute food and water.
