Brown, Turpin take charge of VDF’s 11th Civil Response Battalion
Capt. (Va.) Bernard Brown and Command Sgt. Maj. (Va.) Jackie Turpin take charge of the Virginia Defense Force’s 11th Civil Response Battalion during change of command and responsibility ceremonies June 7, 2025, at the S. Gardner Waller Depot in Richmond, Virginia. Lt. Col. (Va.) Rick Murdock presided over the traditional exchange of unit colors signifying the transfer of command and responsibility from the outgoing 11th CPB command team, Maj. (Va.) Matthew Pearson and Command Sgt. Maj. (Va.) Alnita Baldon, to Brown and Turpin. Formerly known as the 11th Signal Battalion, the 11th Civil Response Battalion was renamed to more accurately reflect the VDF’s evolving mission sets. In addition to interoperable communications, members of the 11th CRB provide administrative and logistics support to the Virginia National Guard on state active duty and also provide traffic management and access control support for community support events.
