TF 183 Soldiers take part in Culminating Training Exercise

Soldiers from the Virginia National Guard's Task Force 183 take part in the Culminating Training Exercise July 15 to 17 at Camp Atterbury, Ind., one of the final training events for the unit at their mobilization station in preparation for federal active duty in Iraq. During the exercise, Soldiers conducted operations order briefs, rehearsals, pre-combat checks and inspections in preparation for convoy escort team missions. Senior leaders from the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team including Col. John M. Epperly, brigade rear detachment commander, Command Sgt. Maj. Donald Westbrook, brigade rear detachment command sergeant major, Lt. Col. Allan Carter, commander of 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry, and Command Sgt. Maj. Ricky Kiser, command sergeant major of 1st Battalion. The leaders visited with Soldiers, received orientation on news equipment and Carter and Kiser presented battalion coins to Soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry for outstanding duty performance. Approximately 825 Soldiers from across the commonwealth are on federal active duty as part of Task Force 183 and are preparing for duty in Iraq where they are scheduled to conduct convoy security and base defense operations.
