Virginia Defense Force trains at Fort Pickett

More than 200 members of the Virginia Defense Force trained on a variety of subject areas during their drill weekend at Fort Pickett July 29 to 31. New VDF members took part in Basic Entry Level Training and more senior members had instruction as part of the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course. Members also conducted a communications exercise, training on the VDF's Mobile Command Posts and well as Incident Management Assistance Team training and WebEOC certification. The Virginia Defense Force is the all-volunteer reserve force for the Virginia National Guard authorized by the Code of Virginia. The organization trains on a variety of tasks including incident management, command and control, communications interoperability capability, sheltering operations, less-than-lethal security and basic first aid. When called up by the Governor of Virginia, the VDF serves side by side with the Virginia National Guard to respond to needs of the citizens of the commonwealth in times of need.
