Governor and members of General Assembly commend Virginia Guard

Governor Bob McDonnell and members of the Virginia General Assembly commend the Virginia National Guard for the organization's service to commonwealth and country at a legislative reception hosted Jan. 18 by the Virginia Guard Officer's Association and Virginia Guard Enlisted Association at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. Approximately 20 Soldiers and Airmen who have served on federal active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan were invited to the reception to share their experiences with the legislators in attendance, and Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia, gave a brief update on the Virginia National Guard. Re-enactors from the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation dressed in military uniforms spanning the more than 400 years of the Virginia Guard service to commonwealth and country were also on hand. Earlier in the day, Virginia National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and members of the Virginia Defense Force displayed some of the Guard's capabilities for state active duty outside the General Assembly building.
