Va. Guard Soldiers transport pet shelter supplies
Virginia National Guard Soldiers from the Martinsville-based 1173rd Transportation Company load approximately 9,000 pounds of pet sheltering supplies for transport to a storage location in the Southwest Virginia area May 21, 2013. The transport mission was conducted in concert with a three-day disaster exercise involving state and local emergency response personnel from ten state agencies, three universities, two hospitals and the counties of Augusta, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Halifax/South Boston, Harrisonburg, Lunenburg, Nelson, Orange, Montgomery, Pulaski and Rockingham. The exercise tests coordination and communication between state and local officials, hospitals, universities and members of the private sector.
