Aviators conduct water hoist training with Chesterfield first responders

Virginia Army National Guard UH-72 helicopter air crews based in Sandston conduct water hoist training with Chesterfield Fire & EMS Scuba Rescue Team personnel Sept. 10, 2013, at Lake Chesdin on the border of Chesterfield County and Dinwiddie County. The training was part of an ongoing effort designed to enhance the emergency response capability of each organization in support of the commonwealth's ability to react to and support emergency management operations. After receiving approval from National Guard Bureau, Virginia Army National Guard aviators conducted multiple emergency management training events with local first responders and will continue to train with them over the next 12 months. Previous training sessions focused on basic hoist operations, and then advanced to a rooftop extraction scenario. This training provides a greater understanding of Guard capabilities and further enhances interoperability between the commonwealth's emergency management partners.(Photo by Staff Sgt. Terra C.
