Va. Soldiers provide transportation support to Coast Guard, Navy
Soldiers from the Martinsville-based 1173rd Transportation Company provide transportation support to the United States Coast Guard's Maritime Special Response Team Sept. 13, 2013, at the Naval Support Activity Norfolk Northwest Annex in Chesapeake, Va. Eight Soldiers in four vehicles secured pallets of equipment on a trailer for transport to New Jersey. The Soldiers returned to Martinsville Sept. 15 after traveling nearly 4,400 total miles without accident or incident. In addition to providing a valuable service to their fellow services, the Soldiers gained valuable experience in mission planning and convoy operations as well as their time on the road behind the wheel.
