Fort Pickett "Mullins Corner" rededication ceremony - June 6, 2009

Fort Pickett hosted a rededication ceremony June 6 for “Mullins Corner," a road intersection near a field artillery firing point named in honor of Lt. Col. Thornton Mullins. Mullins was killed in action during the assault on Omaha Beach on D-Day 1945. The original Mullins Corner was dedicated in 1953, but the sign fell into disrepair over the years and was eventually lost. In honor of the 65th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, a new sign was dedicated in the same location. Mullins was the commander of the 111th Field Artillery Battalion and was killed in action while rallying his troops and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for Valor.
