Lakota aviators support Va. Air Guard exercise
Virginia National Guard aviators from the Sandston-based Detachment 1, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment provide aerial imagery support to a domestic operations exercise conducted by the Virginia Air National Guard's 192nd Intelligence Squadron, 192nd Fighter Wing from Langley Air Force Base Aug. 21, 2013, at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach. After conducting a mission brief between Army and Air Guard personnel to discuss the routes and areas to be assessed, the crew used the specialized imagery capabilities of the UH-72 Lakota helicopter to provide live video feed to analysts from the 192nd IS simulating how they would conduct incident awareness and assessment during a state emergency. In a real world situation, the live video feed capabilities could be used to assess damage or route trafficability after a hurricane or earthquake or in search and rescue operations.
