National Guard mobile training team brings Air Assault Course to Virginia - Aug. 11, 2015
Active duty, U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers and Airmen from across the country run, climb, crawl and maneuver through Fort Pickett’s Air Assault Obstacle Course Aug. 11, 2015, as part of “Zero Day,” the first challenge presented to those hoping to earn the Air Assault Badge. The 10-day course is managed by a mobile training team from the Fort Benning-based Warrior Training Center and the day started with 271 Air Assault hopefuls. On “Zero Day,” Soldiers and Airmen were required to run two miles in less than 18 minutes and then maneuver over and through the obstacle course to gain official entry into the course where they will learn U.S. Army rotary wing aircraft operations including air assault operations, rigging and sling load operations, as well as how to rappel from a helicopter.
