First groups of Va. National Guard Soldiers return from U.S. Virgin Islands
Virginia National Guard senior leaders welcome home the first of several groups of Guard Soldiers returning from hurricane recovery duty in the U.S. Virgin Islands Oct. 10, 2017, in Richmond, Virginia. One of the primary missions for the Soldiers assigned to multiple units of the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team was operating points of distribution, and they served nearly 21,900 people with more than 38,750 meals, more than 99,300 liters of water and nearly 15,100 tarps. About 60 Soldiers from the 116th are still on duty in the U.S. Virgin Islands as the mission command headquarters synchronizing all the military efforts in support of the U.S. Virgin Islands government and Virgin Islands National Guard.
