Fort Pickett hosts visit from Rep. Spanberger

U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia’s 7th Congressional District tours the Fort Pickett Maneuver Training Center April 19, 2019. Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, hosted the tour and provided an information brief along with Walter Mercer, Virginia Department of Military Affairs chief operations officer. Spanberger visited Fort Pickett’s Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site to learn about the facility’s capabilities and to see an M1A2 Abrams tank up close. She also watched a shoot house demonstration, visited the Engagement Skills Trainer and received a driving tour of some of the post’s other facilities. Col. Paul Gravely, the Fort Pickett garrison commander, and Lt. Col. James C. Shaver, chief of Plans, Training and Security, provided a brief on the installation's capabilities. Fort Pickett is in the southern-most portion of Spanberger’s district, which stretches from Nottoway County to Orange County, Virginia.
