Virginia Defense Force observes 40th birthday - May 4, 2024

Members of the Virginia Defense Force observe the organization’s 40th birthday with a cake cutting May 4, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia. With roots going back to the Virginia Volunteers in World War I and the Virginia Protective Force and Virginia State Guard in World War II, the VDF was formally re-established April 18, 1984, and now serves as the all-volunteer reserve to the Virginia National Guard.
