Ceremonies kick off new Fort Barfoot construction projects - Dec. 13, 2024

Virginia National Guard senior leaders and guests break ground on two new construction projects during ceremonies Dec. 13, 2024, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. Brig. Gen. Todd Hubbard, the VNG Director of the Joint Staff and Col. James C. Shaver Jr., the Fort Barfoot garrison commander, participated in the groundbreakings for a new Visitor Control Center as well as a new Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center. They were joined by retired Lt. Col. Tom Barfoot, installation namesake Col. Van T. Barfoot’s oldest son, and Roger Nicholls, husband to Margaret Nicholls, the installation namesake’s daughter, and Stephen Bowen, the administrator for Nottoway County. The new VCC is being constructed next to Fort Barfoot’s main gate and will aid visitor access and installation security.
