Virginia Soldier gets key to Connecticut town during visit - December 19, 2009
Spc. Kyle Harris from the 276th Engineer Battalion visits North Canaan Elementary School in North Canaan, Connecticut, December 18, 2009. While deployed, Harris was contacted by second grade teacher Ashley DeMazza and began corresponding with the class building a relationship with the students. Harris became a popular figure within the school's students and faculty. An all school assembly was held to honor him. He was presented with a good citizenship award from the school's principal Rosemary Kielty and a key to the town from First Selectman Douglas Humes and an honorary diploma from Superintendent Patricia Chamberlain.
