Soldiers get a taste for rigors of Air Assault Obstacle Course - April 17, 2010

by Virginia Guard Public Affairs

More than 100 Virginia National Guard Soldiers got a taste for the rigors of the Air Assault Obstacle Course April 17 at Fort Pickett. Completing the demanding course is a requirement for earning the Air Assault Badge, and instructors from the Blackstone-based 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute hosted the opportunity for Soldiers to navigate the course. The Fort Benning-based Warrior Training Center is scheduled to provide a Mobile Training Team to conduct the Air Assault Course and Pathfinder Course at Fort Pickett in September 2010. The AAC will provide Soldiers with the skills and knowledge required to be competent in the conduct of combat air assault operations including sling load operations and rappelling skills, and the Pathfinder course will provide Soldiers the opportunity to gain technical expertise in planning and executing air movement, air assault, airborne, and air re-supply operations for rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
