Virginia Transportation Company gets head start on deployment training -- Aug. 8, 2012
Soldiers from the Virginia Guard’s Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group train on the U.S. Army’s Palletized Load System and M915 semi trucks at Fort Pickett, Va. August 8 as part of their two week annual training. The 1710th has received a mobilization order to enter federal active duty April 1, 2013. Approximately 160 Soldiers will first conduct mobilization training at Fort Hood, Texas for 45 days before deploying to Afghanistan where they are expected to conduct transportation support operations. The company is currently a medium cargo transportation company, but will train and equip for transportation operations using the Palletized Load System in Afghanistan. The unit was able to get a head start on training with the PLS during annual training.
