Ortner promoted and assumes duties as LCC - June 16, 2013

Col. Blake C. Ortner is promoted to brigadier general by his father-in-law David Varrelman June 16, 2013, at Fort Pickett, and with the promotion assumes the duties as the Virginia National Guard land component commander. Ortner succeeds Brig. Gen. William R. Phillips, II, as the commander of the Virginia Army National Guard, and Phillips is now assigned as deputy commanding general of the Fort Belvoir-based 29th Infantry Division.
