Va. Defense Force conducts communications exercise - July 26, 2014

Members of the Virginia Defense Force's Lynchburg-based 4th Regiment Response Team conduct a communications exercise July 26, 2014, at Fort Pickett, Va. The exercise focused on familiarizing members with the Statewide Agencies Radio System, or STARS, and trained on communicating with the Va. National Guard’s Sandston-based Joint Operation Center. The VDF is an all-volunteer force authorized by the Code of Virginia and organized under the Virginia Department of Military Affairs reporting to the Adjutant General of Virginia. Members of the VDF volunteer their time during monthly drill periods, but are paid when called to state active duty by the Governor of Virginia.
