Members of the Virginia Army National Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia Department of Health, local fire and emergency medical service and the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Medical Response Team joined forces to receive enhanced emergency response training in medical management of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive events as well as wide area search techniques at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach. Training was conducted in June and July and consisted of multiple teams integrated to teach enhanced incident unified command. The instructors were part of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service and contracted by the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency. These two courses were grant funded by DHS and FEMA and free to all participants. Additional courses will be scheduled in fiscal year 2015 and held at Camp Pendleton as well as the Fort Pickett-based 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute.
