Petersburg officials, Va. Guard leaders visit Operation Renew - Aug. 27, 2014
Government officials from the City of Petersburg, including Petersburg Mayor Brian Moore, Petersburg Fire and Police Department personnel and senior leaders from the Virginia National Guard, including Brig. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, visit Operation Renew, a program that provides engineer assets to assist communities in reclaiming control of known drug trafficking areas, Aug. 27, 2014, in Petersburg, Va. Soldiers from the Powhatan-based 180th Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion and Airmen from the Camp Pendleton-based 203rd RED HORSE Squadron worked together to demolish their seventh derelict structure since this year’s operation began Aug. 18, in front of city officials, senior leaders and community members. Approximately 25 Soldiers and Airmen have been working on demolishing the structures, all related to the drug trade in some way, and have hauled away more than one million pounds of debris from the demolished homes.
