Virginia, D.C. Civil Support Teams support each other - April 6-7, 2015

National Guard Soldiers and Airmen from the D.C.-based 33rd Civil Support Team and the Fort Pickett-based 34th Civil Support Team trained together April 7, 2015, at the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue Training Site, Lorton, Va. The two-day exercise held April 6-7, 2015, brought together the two teams as well as firefighters from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Both units can identify chemical, biological, and radiological substances, assess current and projected consequences, advise an incident commander on response measures, and assist with requests for additional state support. The CSTs are federally resourced, trained and sustained and operates under the control of state leadership. The Adjutant General of each state or territory may employ the CST to support the state response under the direction of the governor or to support another state’s response under a supported governor.
