by Virginia Guard Public Affairs

Active duty and U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers along with Army and Air National Guardsmen rappel from a tower Aug. 19, 2015, as part of the Air Assault Course, taught by a mobile training team from the Fort Benning-based Warrior Training Center, at Fort Pickett, Va. Soldiers rappelled from the tower for two days, practicing different rappelling techniques, falling drills and while wearing different equipment configurations, gaining confidence with each rappel. The two-week course trains Soldiers on U.S. Army rotary wing aircraft operations including combat air assault operations, rigging and sling load operations, as well as rappelling from a helicopter.
