Youth from around the state attend the 10th annual Virginia National Guard Youth Camp July 27, 2015, at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach. The weeklong camp, running from July 27-31, is presented by the Virginia National Guard Family Programs Office and offers the children of Virginia military members a wide variety of outdoor and indoor activities, as well as trips to Ocean Breeze Water Park, the Virginia Aquarium and Busch Gardens. On July 27, campers had the opportunity to learn about the importance of teamwork while participating in a laser tag competition, the Virginia Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion provided pedal carts for the campers to race, and staffers from the Winchester STARBASE Academy were on hand at the camp to help the campers build wooden race cars. Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration, or STARBASE, is a Department of Defense educational program.
