Truck drivers compete for top honors in 429th BSB Truck Rodeo
National Guard and active Army Soldiers compete for top honors in a Truck Rodeo hosted by the Virginia National Guard's Danville-based 429th Brigade Support Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team June 14-15, 2016, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. Spc. Justin Evans from Company A, 429th BSB, came in first place in the individual competition and Company A took first place in the team category. The competition consisted of a written test then a driving test in an M1078 light/medium tactical vehicle and an M915 truck with M872 trailer.
National Guard Soldiers from the 429th's Company A, Company C, Company E, Company F and Company , the Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group and the Rocky Mount-based 1173rd Transportation Company, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group took part in the competition as well as active duty Soldiers from the 407th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. The inclusion of Soldiers from the 407th was part of an ongoing training partnership between the 116th IBCT and 2nd BCT.
Warrant Officer Candidate Brian Benson of the 1710th took second place and Sgt. Matthew Walter from Company A took third. The 1710th took second place in the team competition with Company E coming in third place.
