National Guard civil support teams train during Vigilant Guard 18-3 - May 8, 2018

Soldiers and Airmen assigned to National Guard civil support teams from New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., respond to three different simulated chemical spill scenarios May 7-9, 2018, in Newport News, Virginia. The training was part of Vigilant Guard 18-3 emergency response exercise with more than 2,000 National Guard personnel from six states and Washington, D.C., working to improve their ability to respond to a natural disaster and enhance relationships with local, state and federal emergency response partners. The mission of a National Guard civil support team is to support civil authorities in the event of a domestic chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incident with the identification and assessment of hazards, advice to civil authorities and facilitating the arrival of follow-on military forces.
