Maj. Lyndsey N. Hodgkins takes command of the Fort Pickett-based 34th Civil Support Team from Lt. Col. David M. Wheeler during a ceremony Dec. 12, 2019, at the Virginia National Guard Sgt. Bob Slaughter Headquarters at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Col. Todd Hubbard, the Virginia National Guard’s chief of operations, presided over the traditional exchange of colors symbolizing the transfer of command from Wheeler to Hodgkins. The 34th CST supports first responders in potential hazardous materials incidents involving possible chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats. The unit can identify unknown substances, assess current and projected consequences, advise an incident commander on response measures and assist with requests for additional state support.
