34th CST conducts field training exercise - April 22, 2021

Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen assigned to the Fort Pickett-based 34th Civil Support Team conduct a field training exercise April 22, 2021, in Syria, Virginia. In the training scenario, civilian law enforcement officials discovered a simulated radiological dispersal device, and the 34th CST was brought in to assist with the incident. Members of the survey section conducted a post-blast grid search of a simulated RDD where they took photos, marked pieces of the device and collected evidence for evaluation by law enforcement. The 34th CST supports first responders during potential hazardous materials incidents involving possible CBRNE threats and can identify unknown substances, assess current and projected consequences, advise incident commanders on response measures and assist with requests for additional state support.
