Retired Maj. Gen. Craig Crenshaw, the Virginia Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs, visits the State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach, Virginia, May 25, 2022. Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, Brig. Gen. Jim Ring, the VNG Director of the Joint Staff and retired Brig. Gen. Walt Mercer, Virginia Department of Military Affairs Chief Operations Officer, joined Crenshaw for the visit, where he was briefed on operations at SMR, the Commonwealth ChalleNGe Youth Academy and various Virginia Army and Air National Guard units located at the installation.
