Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen gather for a Juneteenth celebration June 16, 2022, at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Col. Todd Hubbard, the Virginia Army National Guard chief of staff, gave remarks and Virginia Air National Guard Senior Master Sgt. Roberto Mercado sang the national anthem and the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Katrina Mercer, daughter of VNG Master Sgt. Joyce Vinson and a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet at Petersburg High School, performed an interpretive dance, and Sgt. Ernest Robinson, a congressional relations officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, assigned to the Manassas-based 229th Military Police Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group, spoke about the historical significance of the Juneteenth holiday.
