New DMA hires attend New Employee Orientation course - Sept. 7, 2023

Newly-hired Virginia Department of Military Affairs employees attend a New Employee Orientation course Sept 7, 2023, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. Eight recent hires attended in person at Fort Barfoot, while another seven attended the course virtually from the State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Retired Brig. Gen. Walt Mercer, the DMA Chief Operations Officer, led the course, which included presentations from different DMA department heads as well as from Col. James C. Shaver Jr., the Fort Barfoot garrison commander. The course provides new state employees an introduction of the DMA and Virginia National Guard organizations as well as administrative and procedural training.
