HART, first responders practice rescue hoists on James River - Sept. 12, 2024

Virginia National Guard aviation crews and Chesterfield County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Scuba Rescue Team members practice rescue hoists along the James River Sept. 12, 2024, in Goochland County, Virginia. The VNG aviators and Chesterfield first responders form the Virginia Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team, providing rotary wing aviation hoist capabilities and aerial rescue evacuation. Crews with the Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services and Powhatan County Fire and Rescue also participated in the training. In the training scenario, UH-60 Black Hawk crews searched along the river for role-playing survivors before hoisting them to safety.
