View of Same District-Present Time, The Heart of Richmond, Va

Card Text (transcribed from postcard): At the close of the Civil War the business section of Richmond, embracing almost the entire portion of the city shown in this view, was in ashes and its inhabitants, then numbering less than 50,000 were impoverished. For many trying years growth and prosperity developed slowly. But with in the last decade, the city's progress, along all lines, has been marvelous; one evidence of which is visibly presented in this view. The splendid buildings here shown from left to right, being as follows: The Travelers Bldg., Post Office Bldg., American Nat'l Bank Bldg., Rueger's Hotel, Mutual Bldg., and First Nat. Bank, while at the extreme left appears the famous Capitol Square. The present population of the city, with its suburbs, is over 188,000 and in per capita wealth it ranks fourth among the cities of the U.S.
