Important Notes for the Data Center Security 6.10.0 Linux Agent
release
• The Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agents can be managed by the Data Center Security: Server Advanced v6.9.3
Management Server or that of previous versions.
• The Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agents can communicate with the upcoming Data Center Security: Server v6.10.
• The Symantec Agent for Windows and Solaris can communicate with Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.9.3
and will also be supported with Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.10.

What's new in Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.10.0 Linux


Agent
Symantec Data Center Security: Server Advanced includes the following new enhancements in the Data Center
Security: Server Advanced 6.10.0 Linux Agent release:

Feature Description

Data Center Security: Server Advanced ESXi support utility The Data Center Security: Server Advanced ESXi support utility uses
VMware vSphere 7.0 API centric tools such as vSphere ESXCLI 7.0
and vSphere Perl SDK 7.0 to monitor the ESXi 7 hosts.
For more information, refer to the
DCSSA_vSphere_Support_Guide.pdf after downloading the guide
from the 6.9.3 Documentation zip.
Support for numeric UID in IPS policy The DCS:SA 6.10.0 Linux Agent now supports the numeric UID in the
IPS policy.
Xerces XML Parser replacement with POCO The Xerces XML parser is now replaced by the POCO parser for the
Linux Agent.

NOTE
• Data Center Security: Server is not included in this particular release of Data Center Security 6.9.3 and
all management functionality for the Security Virtual Appliance (SVA) in the Unified Management Console
(UMC) is removed. Please use Data Center Security 6.9.2 for agentless support. Data Center Security:
Server will continue to be available in upcoming releases.

System Requirements for Data Center Security: Server Advanced


The following are the system requirements for Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.9.3:
• Hardware requirements: Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.9.3
• Hardware requirements: Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agent
• Operating system requirements
• Browser requirements for Unified Management Console
• Virtual machine support for the agent

Hardware requirements: Data Center Security: Server Advanced 6.9.3


Hardware support includes x86, EM64T, and AMD64.VMware must also support this hardware.
The following table lists the minimum hardware requirements for the Data Center Security: Server Advanced components.

Table 1: Minimum hardware requirements

Java Console • 150 MB free disk space


• 512 MB RAM
• Pentium III 1.2 GHz
Management server and UMC • 60 GB free disk space (all platforms)
• 8 GB RAM
• 4 CPUs
Processor architecture as recommended by Microsoft for the
relevant Windows platforms that are supported for Management
Server.
For an Enterprise edition of SQL Server, you must have a
minimum of 60 GB of free disk space. This is applicable for fresh
installation only. Other editions of SQL Server require at least 1
GB of available disk space. However, if you are upgrading the
Management Server using an Enterprise edition of SQL Server,
you must have a free disk space equal to the amount of currently
used disk space + 60 GB. For example, if your used disk space on
SQL Server data drive is 100 GB, you must have a free space of
160 GB.

Hardware requirements: Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agent


The following table lists the minimum hardware requirements for the DCS:SA 6.10.0 Linux Agent:

With the Antimalware feature enabled, the Data Center Security: Server
Advanced Linux agent will not install on a system with less than 4 GB of
RAM.

Operating system requirements


You must have a 64-bit Windows operating system to install the Management Server. For a complete list of the supported
operating systems for the Management Server, the Java console, and the agent, see the Symantec Data Center Security:
Server and Server Advanced 6.9.3 Platform Feature Matrix.
The platform and feature matrix also provides information about the agent features supported on each operating
system. The supported DCS:SA 6.10.0 Linux Agent types are:

RHEL 7 Ubuntu 16
OEL 7 Ubuntu 18
Centos 7 Ubuntu 20
RHEL 8 Ubuntu 22
OEL 8 AmazonLinux 2

Virtual machine support for the agent


The Data Center Security: Server Advanced Agent is supported on virtual machines of Google Cloud, VMWare, KVM,
Xen, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) as long as the virtual machine is running an operating system that is supported by
the agent.

Installing and Upgrading the Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agent


Installing the Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agent on a computer
1. Download the Linux package./agent64-linux-<linux_producttype>.bin
2. Run the downloaded package after providing the parameters such as certificate details, Management Server IP
address and so on.
3. Reboot the Linux Agent computer.

Upgrading the Symantec Linux 6.10.0 Agent


You can upgrade the Linux Agent using either of the options:
• Option 1
a. Download the Linux package /agent64-linux-<linux_producttype>.bin.
b. Disable the IPS policy on the UMC or run the Override tool located here: /opt/Symantec/sdcssagent/IPS/bin/
sisipsoverride
c. Run the downloaded package.
d. Reboot the Linux Agent computer.
• Option 2
a. Download the latest policy pack for DCS:SA 6.10.0 Linux Agent.
b. Import the IDS policy pack.
c. Create the Unix SDSS Agent Diagnostic policy from the Advanced agent settings option as seen below:

d. Apply the policy to the Security Group, where you want to upgrade the Linux Agents.

e. Click Upgrade Now.


f. Reboot the Linux Agent computers.

Known issues
This release has the following known issue:
• The sisevtd.service files are installed, but remain in the disabled state on installing the DCS:SA 6.10.0 Linux Agent in
the DCS Agent only mode. This file is used by Symantec Linux Agent of SEP when the existing DCS:SA Linux 6.10.0
Agent is switched to the dual mode, with both agents installed on the same computer.
