Affect and Effect
• Affect – verb
Covid has affected every profession.

• Effect – noun
Effects of technology are infinite.
Its and It’s
• Its – the possessive form
The cat licked its foot.

• It’s – contraction meaning “it is”


It is government’s responsibility to keep check and balance
There, Their and They’re
• There is used to refer to a place.

• Examples:
• The teacher said “stand over there”.
• There must be a way to pass this hurdle.
There, Their and They’re
• Their refer to possession of something.

• Examples:
• Their uncle is leaving for Peshawar.
• Their house has been sold.
There, Their and They’re
• They’re is a contraction meaning “they are”.

• Examples:
• They’re studying tirelessly.
• They are studying tirelessly.
• They’re investing money in property.

A Lot
• A Lot are two words not one.

• Example:
Today it rained a lot.
Council and Counsel
Council – Group of people elected to manage affairs.
• The council has not decided yet to open schools or not .

Counsel – Advise
• With vise counsel, a student can achieve what he wants.
Lose, Lost, Loose and Loss
• Lose – verb – to fail to win, to misplace

• Examples:
• Sarfraz tries his best, but he always loses.
• Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end.

• Lost – past participle – unable to find a way,
cannot be recovered.

• Examples:
• “Help! We are lost”
• He lost his wallet.

Confusion can be avoided by following steps:

• Use a Dictionary.

• Keep a list of words you commonly confuse.

• Study the list of commonly confused words.

• Sometimes making sentence of the confused word helps.
